Sharing my journey through Air Force Officer Training School (OTS) and beyond.

OTS Weeks 2017

Week 9 – Prop & Wings, Graduation!

Prop & Wings

This week started off with the last of formation runs (a.k.a. the second formation run you’ll do).  It is a six mile run that takes you around to various buildings on the OTS complex and where you can learn about the history of the place.  Every time you stop you’ll be given some information, be given an exercise, then get back to running.  This formation run is super slow, and a lot of people ended up hurting their knees because of it.  Do your best but don’t hurt yourself to complete this, as you’ll want to be able to walk for graduation.

Final Feedback

You will also meet with your flight commander this week to receive your final feedback.  Our flight commander gave us advice as well as a ranking on how we did compared to the rest of the flight.  I found the mentorship I got from my flight commander to be some of the most beneficial help I have ever received, so ask questions as you see necessary.  They’re there to guide you.

Graduation

The rest of this week will be primarily dedicated to practice for the parade, graduation, and retreat.  There is also an awards night, where you’ll get to spend time with whoever you invite and enjoy a night not on base (by that I mean lights out is pushed back so you don’t have to go to bed quite so early).  All in all this will be an easy week, so enjoy the last few days with your flight and celebrate (responsibly of course, some people have been told to leave in the final few days).  And congrats on becoming an officer in the Air Force.
